Vilamoura (Old) - 6924 yards par 73
One of the original courses on the Algarve and also one of the best. A tight challenging course where accurate placement is of the hightest importance. Surrounded by mature cork trees this course is ranked very highly in Europe and justifiably so. A major facelift in 1996/7 when the fairways were reseeded and greens restructured have returned the course to it's highly ranked position. It is a 'must play' course for a lot of visiting golfers. Absolutely superb.

Parque de Floresta - 6077 yards par 72
Designed by Pepe Gancedo, who also designed Torrequebrada, it has all of the qualities for a challenging game of golf. Probably the hardest course in the Western Algarve, it is quite hilly in places and buggies are recommended. A recent redevelopment programme has improved the course and made it very enjoyable to play. There a variety of holes including a dog leg to start the round.

Palmares - 6175 yards par 71
The oldest course on the Algarve but also one of the best. Having probably the best views in all of Portugal it also offers great golf. Starting off with some classic links holes the course winds it's way gradually inland through avenues of Almond Trees with some real testing par 4's on the back nine. A very interesting and enjoyable course.

Penina - 6660 yards par 72
The most famous course designed by Sir Henry Cotton. The course has undergone a total revamp in the last few years bringing it up to the quality to host the Portugeese Open in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Ranked very highly in Europe it is of excellent design that has been improved since the course was revamped. A magnificent course that has a great history.

Alto Golf - 6125 yards par 72
The last course to be designed by Sir Henry Cotton. It is a narrow course that has some big changes in elevation. It is unique with having a rare par 3 start and also the longest par five in Europe at 660 yards. The course is cleverly designed and has fine views of the sea and hills.

Quinta do Lago - 6458 yards par 72
Host to the Portugese Open seven times. It's reputation as one of the best courses in Portugal is justifiably deserved. Gently undulating terrain through pine forest with large fast greens, this course is beautiful and deadly. It is suitable for all levels of golfers with a number of tee positions that can make it one of the hardest off the back blocks. Always in great condition, it is one of the best around.

Vale do Lobo (Ocean) - 5680 yards par 72
The older course out of the two designed by Sir Henry Cotton. A parkland design with tight fairways and spectacular views. It is one of the most scenic courses in the Algarve meandering through pine and eucalyptus trees. It also has a hole running along the beach and has some very tough par 4's on the back nine

Pinta - 6411 yards par 71
Part of the Carvoeiro golf complex it has a challenging layout in rural surroundings. Olive, fig and almond groves surround the relatively hilly course. There are a number of elevated tee positions and has some tough greens. A good course set in traditional Portugeese terrain.

Quinta do Gramacho - 6511 yards par 72
The second Carvoeiro course. This is a totally unique course with it being an 18 hole course utilizing nine firways. It has 18 greens and 72 tees meaning that it is suitable for all levels of player. It is set in undulating surroundings with olive and almond trees. The course requires accurate hitting making it a test even for the low handicapper. Another unique golfing experience.

Salgados - 6564 yards par 72
One of the newest courses in the Algarve. A links course situated by the sea featuring water hazards. In an area of natural beauty it requires accurate iron play to hit the greens and avoid the water hazards. Can be a real test of golf if the wind decides to blow. A thoroughly enjoyable course.

Vilamoura Millennium - 6820 yards par 72
The newest addition to the Vilamoura courses opened in May 2000. It is an excellent course that has two contrasting nines. The front nine is made up of remodeled holes from the old Laguna North course and the back nine is newly designed by Martin Hawtree through pine forest. Some of the holes are the tightest in the Algarve and need good shotmaking. A quality course that is always in good condition and gaining a great reputation.

Ria Formosa - 6308 yards par 72
Part of the Quinta do Lago complex it wanders through the estate surrounded by spectacular pines and scenery. Similar to Quinta do Lago it is set in gently undulating terrain and also has fast greens. It has 4 superb par fives that require both power and accuracy, and favours those who can draw the ball. A great finishing hole over a lake is a fitting end to a superb championship course.

Vilamoura Laguna - 6708 yards par 72
An American design course that has undergone recent refurbishment. Plenty of water and bunkers to catch the wider shots but also offers wide fairways and large greens. A different design to most courses in the area and like the other Vilamoura courses is well maintained. It is suitable for all levels of golfer.

Vilamoura Pinhal - 6400 yards par 72
Winding through umbrella pines and cork trees it offers a good test of golf and is very popular. Not as tight off the tee as the old course it still requires accurate approaches to find the correct part of the green. Off the green there is plenty of trouble waiting with well placed bunkers. An enjoyable course that is very fair.

Vilasol - 6321 yards par 72

Mostly treelined requiring accurate shots from the tee and small fast greens it is also requires accurate approaches. Along with the tight fairways there are water hazards to add to the danger. A quality golf course well worth playing.

Vale do Lobo (Royal) - 6755 yards par 72
Open in 1997 this course has one of the most photographed holes in the world. The par 3 16th is played across the edge of the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. It is a spectacular hole that isn't let down at all by the rest of the course. Regarded as one of the premier courses in the Algarve with good golf rewarded it is extremely popular and always in good condition.

Pinheiros Altos - 6615 yards par 72
Adjoining the Rio Formosa nature reserve this Ronald Fream design has two distinct halfs. The front nine is undulating and is carved out of pine forest whilst the back nine is flatter and water comes into play on every hole. This is a quality design that has become very popular since it opened in 1992. It requires accuracy to score well and makes you want to hit bold shots.

Benamor - 6100 yards par 71
A relatively new course opened in 2000. Located between Faro and the Spanish border it offers good golf and some fine scenery. The first five holes are relatively short and can lull you into a false sense of security with some tough holes in the back nine. Wanders through cork and olive groves and is worth a visit.

Boavista - 6278 yards par 72
Situated just outside Lagos in the Western Algarves this new course looks like it has a very bright future. Opened in early 2002 it is well manicured and will test all levels of golfer. A great selection of different and interesting holes with the short holes being one of the main features of the course. A good course that will only get better.

Castro Marim - par 72
