Valderamma
The best of the best. No wonder Real Club Valderrama has hosted the Ryder Cup. Home to the Volvo Masters (1988-96 and 2002-2008), the Ryder Cup (1997), the World Golf Championships (1999-2000), the Andalucía Masters (2010-2011) and Open de España (2016). - Valderrama surpasses its reputation as Europe's number one course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones and lovingly maintained by founder and original owner Jaime Ortiz Patiño for many years, this is one of the continent's toughest challenges. The 4th hole, a par-5 of spectacular beauty, ends on a raised green next to a cascade of water meandering to a greenside lake. The famous par-5 17th features a green with bunkers at the back, and slopes down to an emerald lake. It is a favourite vantage point for spectators - and a bête noire for top championship players.
San Roque New
A world class course which hosted the Spanish Open in 2006. Co-designed by Severiano Ballesteros and Perry Dye, it blends perfectly into the contours of the hillsides around mature oak trees and provides players with incomparable views to the Guadalquiton River and the Mediterranean beyond. Offering an ideal alternative to the original course, which is now considered to be one of the finest in Europe, the New Course presents its own individual challenges. There are five different tee positions at each hole and wide fairways, making it possible for scratch and low-handicap golfers, as well as those with higher handicaps, to play a great game. More than one hundred strategically-placed bunkers protect the greens and water hazards come into play at four of them.
San Roque Old
This amazing course is the pride of the San Roque club, At the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja, where the mountains meet the sea, is a legendary home for European golf Created in 1990. Designed by Dave Thomas with bunkers redesigned by Seve ballesteros, The Old Course is rated amongst the finest in Europe.
La Reserva
Although only opened in 2004 La Reserva Golf has established itself as one of the leading courses in this part of the Coast rivaling Sotogrande, San Roque and even Valderamma. A must play for those who where price isn’t an issue on their Costa Del Sol golf holiday. La Reserva Golf Is Great For Players Of All Abilities. The course at La Reserva Golf is long at 6700 metres but the fairways are wide and there are several tees on each hole to make this course a challenge whatever your ability. Native pine, cork and olive trees line the fairways and water comes into play on 6 holes. La Reserva Golf is expensive but well worth a trip on your next Costa Del Sol golf holiday.
Real Golf Club De Sotogrande
The course Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is considered as one of the masterpieces of Robert Trent Jones who chose this course as one of his five favourites from more than 500 courses he designed worldwide. Officially opened in 1964 Sotogrande was the first course Trent Jones designed in Europe. It is a fascinating course for players of any level which retains all the natural beauty of the land on which it was built only 150 metres from the Mediterranean. The course has a par of 72 and measures 6.492 metres. It offers long tees, wide fairways and elevated greens delicately moulded and very fast, which embody the biggest difficulty of the course. Of the 100 or so bunkers on the course 69 are placed around the greens which, warn the player to have great accuracy when attacking the pins. The quality of the course is very well reflected by the quality of the champions over a period of many years. Among others there are Severiano Ballesteros, Jose María Olazabal, Roberto de Vicenzo, Sergio García, Padraig Harrington or Rory McIlroy.
La Duquesa
18 holes and entertaining fairways designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. will allow you to enjoy rounds of golf reserved for players who enjoy the sun and Mediterranean breezes. Spectacular tees from which you can see the African continent and neighbouring Marbella.
Teeing off from the 17th hole will convince you that there are very few courses in which nature and design merge so beautifully.
Almenara
Almenara is within easy to reach for those travelling from Malaga, Jerez de La Frontera or Gibraltar airports. The Almenara Golf Club is set in the rolling hills of Sotogrande, one of the Costa del Sol’s most upmarket areas. Designed by Dave Thomas, the three courses, Los Lagos, Los Pinos and Los Alcornoque boast an impressive 27 holes in total, with fairways winding through breath-taking landscapes consisting of deep bunkers, two large lakes as well as pine and cork trees. The beauty of Almenara lies in the fact that golfers can enjoy up to three different 18-hole combinations, all with a par of 27, providing not only challenge for even the most experienced of players, but a new and exiting game – at least for the first three rounds!
La Canada
Nestled comfortably between the Med and the mountains, the La Cañada Golf Club is handy for anyone staying or residing in the residential area of Sotogrande. The 18-hole course was opened back in 1982 – its first nine holes were designed by Dave Thomas and the remaining by Robert Trent Jones. Its challenging fairways offer unrivalled views of the sea, providing the ideal place for sun worshippers to soak up some rays whilst enjoying a round. The club boasts an excellent 250m long driving range, two putting greens and an approach zone. Once you’ve completed your game, head to the Club Restaurant, with its panoramic views over the River Guadiaro and traditional Andalucian cuisine
